Includes text: "Routes des Europeens vers les Indes Occidentales". Map showing part of the South Sea with Nova Guinea, Carpentaria, Van Diemen's Land, New Zealand and "Terres Ant-Arctiques". Curiously, the discovery of Nouvelle Zelande (1642) is given as "1654"; Gallego's discoveries in "Isles de Terre Australe (...) 1576" should be 1568. Fernandes (Hernando) Gallego, Mendana's chief pilot, is also mentioned in Du Val's Geographie Universelle, 1676, as 'having made discoveries in the name of the king of Spain in the year 1576'. "Des Terres Antarctiques" are, according to Du Val, often called "Australes, Magellaniques, & Inconnues, (...) Indes Meridionales, & le troisieme Monde". They number La Nouvelle Guinee, les Isles de Salomon, la Nouvelle Zelande, le terre de Feu, la Terre des Perroques, la Nouvelle Hollande. (La Geographie Universelle). Track of Le Maire also shown.
