Product Description

South polar view map first published by Henricus Hondius in 1642.

This Jansson's re-issue shows Tasman's 1642 discoveries in Van Diemen's Land, omitting the title cartouche to show Nova Zeelandia, Ant. van Diem. Landt and G.F. de Wits Landt. Australia named as "Nova Hollandia". I. de Diego Ramires repositioned so that Tierra del Fuego may be enlarged to "Magellanica"; Cape Horn shown.

The inscription "Nova Hollandia detect Anno 1644" refers to Tasman's second voyage.
