Product Description

Text on verso ("Orbis Terrae Typus Cum ex naturae...") places this issue in the Mercator's Atlas, 1595 onwards.

First appeared in Strabonis Rerum Geographicarum, Geneva 1587.

On equatorial stereographic projection, this map shows Beach, Lucach and Maletur in Terra Australis with the comment "That vast countries exist here follows from the writings of M. Polo the Venetian and Ludovicus Vartomann".

Shows Terra Australis with separate Iava mino and Nova Guinea. Also "Beach provincia aurifera".
