To the left of ‘Chili’ on this map is a reference to ‘Davis’s Land’, an island that had allegedly been sighted by the English buccaneer Edward Davis in 1687. This is an example of a phantom island, one that would repeatedly appear on maps before its existence was eventually disproven.
