This photo captures some of the hustle and bustle surrounding the 60 stalls at the Red Cross Carnival in Martin Place in 1940. A boy scout is looking at the woman spruiking a chocolate wheel stall with her megaphone. The woman in the foreground is selling numbered tickets before the wheel spins. The day was a great success with nearly $715,000 in todays money raised in Sydney alone.
