Product Description

Polar hemispheres of 6 half-gores each to make a globe 17,5 cm. in diameter. Mitchell Library holds the only 'unmounted' example known. FranciscusVerhaer (van der Haer, Haraeus, Hareius, Utrecht 1555 - Leuven 1631) adopts symbols used by Hondius (Designatio Orbis Christiani, 1607) to note the spread of the Christian and Moslem faith; "Barbariei" are designated by a slanted arrow. Prime meridian Ferro ("Ptolemaei"). "Terrae globus palaestra virtutis et vitij. (...) Marcello Ab Eversdyck (...) describente Fran. Hareio." Climatic zones noted; Beach, Lucach and Maletur marked on Terra Australis Incognita; Nova Guinea semi-joined.
