The flat areas of primary colour, bold use of black and unusual viewpoint in this poster reflect the influence of French artist Toulouse Lautrec. His influence on poster design can be seen in a number of Australian designs from this period as it 'passed like a comet over the major part of the Western hemisphere' (E. McKnight Kauffer in Timmers, M. The Power of the Poster, V&A Publications, 1998 London, p. 42).
