Product Description

This Cirkut panorama was taken from the cupola of Queen Victoria Building, looking east to St Mary's Cathedral. It is one of several dozen panoramas of Sydney taken that year by Alan Row & Co., who specialised in the format. It is difficult to achieve even lighting in panoramic photographs, particularly in the sky, and Row added the dramatic clouds during printing. Professionals such as Alan Row, E. B. Studios, Exchange Studios, Hall & Co., Rex Hazlewood and the itinerant H. G. McBurney all used Cirkut cameras in Sydney during the 1920s. Melba Studio still uses its antique No. 10 Cirkut for group photographs.
