In October 1946 Ron Ewing entered his 'Bitza' racing car in the 100-mile (240 km) Grand Prix at Bathurst. In this photo he is working on the car, a Buick Special modified with aircraft parts. Ewing, a Sydney ambulance worker, had built it in the backyard of the Summer Hill ambulance station in Sydney. Unfortunately, it blew its clutch during the race, and he had to pull out.
