Virginia Dodge and Clara Lee were the first women in Australia to ride the Wall of Death on motorbikes. In fact, they were the only women in the world performing this stunt at the time. They arrived in Sydney in February 1938 to perform at the Royal Easter Show. Clara is pictured here performing at the show. In July, five months after they arrived, Virginia suffered a skull fracture when a tyre on her motorbike blew out at the top of the wall and she fell to the bottom.
