Once the steel arches for the bridge were connected, the creeper cranes used to build them worked their way back down the arches to allow the roadway to be constructed from the centre outwards. In this photo we can see the platform taking shape after the vertical hangers attached to the arch were joined with horizontal cross beams. The deck for the roadway and railway was then laid on top of this. The process started in August 1930 and was completed in June 1931.
