After purchasing Australian National Airways plane Southern Moon, Charles Ulm renamed it Faith in Australia. In June 1933, he flew it to England and then to Ireland where, on 27 July, disaster struck. While loading the plane at Portmarnock Beach, north of Dublin, the increased weight caused it to sink into the sand and several police officers guarding the plane were seriously injured. Other officers were drafted into unloading the plane and moving it to higher ground to save it from being washed away by the rising tide.
