Shortly after 9 am on Friday 8 July 1949, a police raid occurred that was Australias largest to that date. Its focus was Marx House, the headquarters of the Communist Party in Sydney. Eighty state and federal police officers prised up carpets and flooring. They seized 32 bundles of documents and several filing cabinets. This photo was taken as crowds gathered outside the building and police reinforcements were called in to control them.
