Product Description

Throughout the twentieth century, Nauru was one of four small Pacific islands that supplied almost all the phosphate used for fertiliser in Australia and New Zealand. Once mining exhausted the resource, the island was left as a moonscape of pits among coral pinnacles. Documentary filmmaker and writer Maslyn Williams’s photo of phosphate miners at work shows just how destructive the process was for Nauru.
