By the end of the 1800s, the Sydney suburb of Epping, in Wallumedegal country, had become a centre for citrus and other fruit growers. The Sonters, one of the areas more successful agricultural families, are seen here packing apples for the Sydney markets. The photographer Rex Hazlewood was born in Dulwich Hill in 1886 and moved to Epping with his family. He trained as a tailor and a Baptist minister before becoming a commercial photographer.
