Although based in Cairns for most of his life, photographer Herbert Chargois took a series of photos in Sydney. This 1950 panorama of Manly pier and pool captures an amazing amount of activity. Some of the people on the sand, including a sunbaker in the foreground and a man in the suit in the centre of the image, appear to be gazing at Chargoiss camera. Elsewhere, the long exposure time has blurred peoples features as they move along the beach and enjoy the beautiful weather.
