One of Sydneys most popular models in the 1940s, Lorraine Croke, was photographed many times for Pix magazine. In March 1951 she was badly burnt when her ballet dress caught fire at the Celebrity Club in York Street. She underwent several skin grafts on her left arm but was unable to return to modelling or dancing. In 1953 she sued the club and was awarded £3900 (about $270,000 today). This photo is by Patricia Holmes, one of the few female photographers working for the Sydney press at the time.
