Product Description

The first Japanese whaling fleet to visit Sydney arrived on 19 October 1935 on its way to Antarctica. The main ship Tonan Maru, purchased from Norway, was accompanied by five whale-chasing boats. The fleet’s visit to Antarctic waters was essentially experimental, as it was the first time the Japanese had attempted to exploit southern whaling.
