Jack and Jill was one of the most expensive pantomimes ever staged in Australia with one item, The Jewel March, said to have cost £2,500 and 'the same lavishness shown throughout the play' (The Theatre, 1 April 1909).
It set a new world record for popularity. Fourteen weeks in Melbourne and twelve weeks in Sydney attracted 1,116,000 people, over one-third of the total population of these cities!
