In October 1946 the New South Wales 100-mile Grand Prix at Bathurst attracted a field of 32 cars, including five from Victoria and two from Queensland. Around 30,000 people turned out to watch and extra police were brought in to control the crowds that lined the Mount Panorama course. On the starting grid we can see No. 21, Alf Najar (the eventual winner), next to No. 22, Jack Nind.
